I’m still suffering from delightfully invigorating bouts of coughing and retching worthy of The Exorcist thanks to whooping cough (Bordetella pertussis), which seems to be enjoying a comeback tour in the UK at the moment. And, just for good measure, I have also contracted the good old common cold. Hence, the continuing delay in the next podcast, but please hang in there- it’s returning soon.
I missed the last episode of Doctor Who (The Power of Three– Why are the episode titles so derivative this season?) simply from lack of enthusiasm. I will watch the episode eventually, but since I’ve also fallen behind with all my regular shows, it might be on the back burner for a while. One change coming is that the Doctor’s latest assistants Amy and Rory will be leaving the show next week. I have watched a few of the Making of shows for Doctor Who, so I know that Karen Gillian and Arthur Darvill are good actors who had the chops to play Amy and Rory any way the writers could have written them, but I never warmed to Amy the kissagram or Rory the male nurse. They just seemed like really boring characters, so maybe this departure will mark a change in the show. And please, by Hand of Omega, no more Daleks, Cybermen or Silurians for a long, long time. And make it scarier; much, much scarier.
Dredd 3D – Final moan of the day, I’ve heard both civilians and film critics (who should know better) describe the new Judge Dredd movie as a decent representation of the comic. No it isn’t. And, by the way, in the comic Dredd never whispers “I am the law”, he shouts “I AM THE LAW!” Also, he is not caring, sharing or a damn cadet’s wet-nurse. Get with the programme Alex Garland or I’ll see you doing fifteen in a drokking iso-cube.
