Kane and Karl Edward Wagner

I borrowed a battered paperback copy of Karl Edward Wagner’s Dark Crusade from Catford Public library (sadly defunct) sometime in the 1980s.  That was my first experience of the monumental talent that was Wagner. There are many other articles about him on the internet so I won’t bore you, but if you like fantasy, are sick to death of the damn Shire and have a penchant for heroic fantasy with a gothic/Lovecraftian slant, then seek out anything by Wagner.  As well as the Kane novels featuring an immortal, intellectual, muscle-bound, fratricidal sorcerer, Dr. Wagner wrote fairly prolifically until his sad decline and exit from this plane of existence many years ago.   When I donated almost all my nerdly possessions to charity, one of the few things I kept was my Wagner collection.
